Day 1:
Cancun
Arrival in the afternoon to Cancun Airport, transfer to Fairfield Cancun Downtown Hotel or similar. Overnight stay.
Day 2:
Cancun - Chichen Itza - Merida
After breakfast, departure for Chichen-itza. Visit of the ancient Maya capital of Yucatan and its impressive monuments including the Temple of Kukulkan, the Temple of the Warriors, the ‘pelota’ game field and the sacrifice pit. Lunch in a local restaurant. In the afternoon continuation to Merida and accommodation at the hotel La Mision de Fray Diego or similar. Overnight stay.
Day 3:
Mérida - Uxmal - Campeche
Breakfast at the hotel. Departure for Uxmal with a visit to the archaeological zone where you will see the remains of the Mayan city that flourished between the 3rd and 10th centuries: the Pyramid of the Soothsayer and the Governor's Palace. Lunch in a restaurant. Afterwards continue to Campeche, capital of the state of the same name. Brief visit of the Old City enclosed and fortified with towers and walls erected to defend the colony from pirate raids. Within the old walls the City retains, even today, a typical colonial flavour with beautiful patrician houses and austere churches. After the visit, accommodation at the Francis Drake Hotel or similar. Overnight stay.
Day 4:
Campeche - Villahermosa
Breakfast at the hotel. In the morning departure to Villahermosa, capital of the state of Tabasco, with lunch en route. In the afternoon visit of the Parque Museo de la Venta. Accommodation at the Countryard Marriott Hotel or similar. Overnight stay.
Day 5:
Villahermosa - San Cristóbal de las Casas
After breakfast departure to Tuxtla Gutierrez, capital of the state of Chiapas, and from there to Chiapa de Corzo. Transfer to the pier to embark and descend the arm of water created inside the Sumidero Canyon, which is barred upstream by a dam. The altitude and nature of the place contribute to an incredible experience. Continuation to San Cristobal de las Casas. Accommodation at the Gran Barrio hotel or similar, overnight stay.
Day 6:
San Cristóbal de las Casas
Breakfast at the hotel. In the morning, visit the local market, one of the most typical in the region, where hundreds of indigenous people gather daily to sell their products. Continue to the baroque-style Santo Domingo Church, founded in 1547, and depart for a visit to the indigenous communities of San Juan Chamula and Zinacantan. The former is very special, as in the church one can see the coexistence of pagan rites and Christianity, while the indigenous Zinacantan people are very much oriented towards Catholicism. Return to the city. Lunch in a local restaurant and rest of the day at leisure. Overnight stay in the hotel.
Day 7:
San Cristóbal de las Casas - Palenque
Breakfast and departure for Palenque through the beautiful green sierra. Lunch in a local restaurant. Visit of the Agua Azul waterfalls. In the afternoon, visit of the archaeological centre of Palenque. On the edge of the tropical jungle stands one of the most beautiful Maya ritual centres in operation from the 3rd to 7th century AD.
Famous is the temple of inscriptions inside which the tomb of the great lord ‘Pakal’ was discovered, adorned with a precious jade mask, an authentic masterpiece of Maya art. Arrival in Palenque, overnight stay at the Chan Kah Hotel or similar.
Day 8:
Palenque - Calakmul - Chicannà
Breakfast at the hotel. In the morning departure for a visit to the majestic site of Calakmul located within the national park, a Maya biosphere reserve, the largest tropical forest in all of Mexico. Calakmul is home to 86 species of mammals, including jaguars, pumas, ocelots, tiger cats, yaguarondi, anteaters, spider monkeys, and howler monkeys. (4H30 journey). This majestic site, recently emerged from the jungle, has had an incredible influence on the history of the region and Maya civilisation in general. Lunch. Accommodation and overnight stay at the Ecovillage Chicanná or similar.
Day 9:
Chicanna - Bacalar - Riviera Maya
Breakfast at the hotel. In the morning visit of the archaeological zone of Chicanná and of way stop in the Lagoon of Bacalar. Lunch in restaurant. In the afternoon, arrival to the Riviera Maya in the selected hotel (not included).
Possibility to add sea extension at the end of the tour.
